Who Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are (a primer)
Another post for which I must ask the patience of the non-US folk. I noticed a number of people getting the Gravel and/or Kucinich answers in their Presquiz. I thought I'd give everyone a short Youtube advisory on both men. They are both very smart, very wise, and very honest people. Dennis, however, is a socially awkward elf. Mike Gravel reminds me a lot of Brother Theodore. The videos show why they'll never be elected unfortunately, because I'm much more in tune with Gravel's thought processes particularly than I am with anyone's, even John's.

Here are the vids:

Dennis sings the oldies, in public )

Good luck to New Hampshire folk today.

A little Brother Theodore introduction
One of the genuinely eeriest things that has ever happened to me involved a discussion I had with Maila Nurmi, who played the original horror hostess Vampira back in the 50s (you may remember her appearance in Ed Wood's "Plan Nine from Outer Space"). I must preface it by saying that the day before, I'd just been talking with my friend Janet and the topic of comedy came around. We were surprised to find that we shared a great love for the highly iconoclastic and occasionally downright pseudo-psychotic Brother Theodore. Ted had been around a long time, though David Letterman helped revive his career through his show.

The next day, Janet and I were sitting with Maila talking about a number of things. Maila was a good friend of James Dean's (I think I've mentioned my Dean linkages previously) so since Janet and I had been discussing comics the day before, we asked Maila about Jimmy's preferences when it came to comedy. Her reply, word for word (remembered because it was so shocking), was, "Jimmy used to love that guy they called Theodore ... I think he calls himself Brother Theodore now."

I say all this because I just mentioned Brother Theodore in reference to Mike Gravel, so I thought I'd share a clip of him from Youtube (everybody is on Youtube): The late, great Brother Theodore on David Letterman.

Incidentally, there's a lot more to the "eeriest" context, but we'll leave it at that for now. Pardon the double post ... H/W story in a couple of days.
