Come and get me, Lou Dobbs -- my great-grandfather was an illegal alien
It's true. I had always wondered why I had such trouble tracking my grandmother's maternal grandparents. Her mother had died young (which was so often the case then), but I had all manner of family information. I even had pictures of them, for heaven's sake. I knew my great-grandmother's name was Selia. I knew her surname was Graham. I knew she had a sister named Fredonia. How could they be hard to find on a census???

I now know this was due to the fact my great-granddad was an illegal Canadian alien. (GASP!) What's worse, he had illegally hopped the pond before he illegally jumped the border. He was from Scotland. Great-grandma was from England. They had no papers. Will my 350 years of ancestry on my other side help? Will my Cherokee heritage matter? Will I now be added to the terrorist watch list along with Ted Kennedy and a lot of poor guys named Robert Johnson? What's a true-blue Yank to do in the face of Lou Dobbs? (That's right, he's a blow hard bigot nobody listens to anyway ... thank heavens).

Go VOTR day - Vermont, Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island vote today. I know I'm hoping for a strong Obama showing in Texas at least. I think we may get one in Ohio, too. Whatever happens, jacta alea est -- we already have our nominee. Hopefully, the decision will be a strong one today so we can now set our sights on the general election.

BTW, the H/W novel is still rolling along.

I am simply shocked to find out that you're descended from illegal aliens! Next thing I know, Bill-O's going to be talking about you on his show as an example of how illegal Canadians come down into our country, raise families, and have descendants who write gay porn about beloved TV characters!

No wonder God sent that flood to New Orleans.

I know! How will I ever live with the shame?

*sigh* I guess I'll just have to write more porn about beloved TV characters to sublimate my guilt. :)

With regards the US election, I really do hope Obama does well. Lately, Hillary Clinton been scaring the hell out of me and got me thinking that perhaps Britney Spears isn't the only one supposedly suffering from bi-polar disorder!

But what I found slightly disturbing today was an interview I saw with an Ohio voter. He was a complete undecided right up until he went to vote. Whena reporter asked who he voted for, he said Clinton. But only because his wife was a Clinton supporter and wanted to see a woman in the Oval office. I could have just rolled my eyes at this and ignored it if it wasn't for the fact that in the next breath he said he thought Obama would make a better president! I just don't get it.

He voted for Clinton but wants Obama to win.

Where is the logic?! I can only hope the rest of the voting public have a bit more sense! Hopefully :)

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what people tell the press. There's a long US tradition of BS'ing the press about who you vote for. My grandfather walked out of every polling place and told the press (they did it way back then, too) that he had voted for Alsbury Dewey Cole -- his stepbrother. My great-uncle was never elected to anything but he made the press on occasion.

I expect our voting public is as intelligent/stupid/whatever as any other group of people.

Hillary worries me. I think Bill Clinton is the best President we've had in thirty years, but that isn't saying a lot, given the right-wingers we've had during most of my lifetime. Hillary seems to be more on McCain's side than Obama's.

However, today will be the concluding chapter. If she doesn't see it now, the party bigwigs will start backing Obama and the question will be moot.
