Yet another friend died

April 25th, 2008 (04:43 pm)

I'm beginning to be afraid to look at my email.

My friend Alina passed away suddenly last night. She was 82 so it was no great surprise, but she was in great health last I saw her. That's three friends in two weeks -- on the heels of losing Larry's best friend Gino and having a scary close-call with my adopted brother Harry. I'm feeling very sad and very mortal.

Aw, sweetie, I'm so sorry. Please be kind to yourself and let yourself grieve.

I'm trying, my friend. The worst of it all is I've just found out that she killed herself. We're talking about a brilliant Cambridge-educated woman who was one of my editors. She was denied government assistance (or something of the kind) to help pay for her medications. She got depressed and took everything she had. It's one of those things where, ten minutes later, she'd have changed her mind.

And here I thought it was impossible to hate George Bush more.

{{{{HUGS}}}}

So sorry for your loss.

Some days I'm scared to go on the internets for similar reasons. And when it's not people you know and like and maybe love, it's people who have been part of your life forever...

This morning, in the UK, the death of a jazz player better known as the chairman of a long running and very silly radio show (I'm sorry I haven't a clue) has created an enormous gap in many lives.

I guess it's just part of getting older. :(

((HUGS BACK)) I'm sorry for your loss, too. Life is so short and narrow so those souls that help fill the hours are truly necessary. Thank heavens for music and literature and good TV and film and theatre, etc, etc.

Seems like, every day, a little bit more of my childhood is eaten away. Sort of like internal urban sprawl. :(
