Can't sleep so I'm posting

April 26th, 2008 (03:58 am)

I'm starting a House/Wilson slash only comm that will be open framework (and no tags required). I'll post about that stuff once I'm on my feet again.

The cool news I got (listen up, Adams folk) came from an unnamed friend of mine at a certain Adams-related destination (there are only really four main ones, so that narrows it down, but I don't want to get her in trouble so I'll not say which). Usually, on a typical Friday spring/summer morning, they get around ten tourists for the first tour. The first morning after the series began they had ... wait for it ... 74. My friend nearly swallowed her tongue. It has only been increasing over the weeks that the series is on -- today they hosted nearly 600 tourists by the end of the already extended tour day. She said, "My god, you'd think it was Monticello or something!" lol Somewhere, I'm sure Mr Adams is quite pleased (although I dare say he didn't enjoy all the tromping around).

John & Abigail - by ruuger

Re: the increase in Adams tourism - awesome! As I recall, my family was the only one present for the tour we took through the birth places, Peacefield, etc. On one level, that was completely exciting for me because it meant I could monopolize the tour guide's time, but -

I know -- same thing with me the first time. We were the only ones at United First Parish so we were able to have a little "alone time" with just my friends, the tour guide, and John and Abigal (and Quincy and Louisa Catherine). The last time I was there, McCullough's book had just come out, so there were a few more. I'm very happy to hear John is finally getting the attention he so richly deserves but, yeah, I'll miss being able to ask the guides eight million questions (like "so, is it haunted? lol)

All Pr*n All Us

Always interested in a good House/Wilson slash-only comm, which we've been sadly lacking in. Keep us posted! :-)

Interesting. One of my good friends lives down the block from the house in Quincy, and I'll have to ask her if she's seen more tourists poking about. We used to watch them from her livingroom window.

Glad to know my ancestor is finally getting some attention from the public. Or the Tourons, as us historical interpreters like to refer to them as.

I am beyond jealous of your friend. In fact, I'm so green I am chartreuse.

Another A.A. (Adams ancestor)! It's funny, I only found out that I'm related to John through my Taylor line three years ago (long after I'd "fallen for" Adams). Then again, anyone whose family has been in the the US (or the colonies) for long enough is related to a number of Presidents. Still, I was very pleased to find my little link.

Happy John

Haha. Yeah, I mean, my mother's family are the Adams, and as a kid, I had always been told I was related to him, but I never really did any research on it. However, awhile back while I was doing some genealogical research on the other side of my family, I decided to go ahead and pursue that line as well (seeing as I was only a 15 minute subway ride away from the Quincy courthouse). It was pretty easy to trace, because I knew I was a direct ancestor (I'm J.A.'s great great great great granddaughter, via John Quincy and then so on), but it was neat to see it all in line.

I remember my mother saying something along the lines of "Yep, you're an Adams..." to me as a kid on more than a few occasions. As early as elementary school, I was already inciting rebellions (hence her remarks). I remember when I almost was expelled from not one, but two schools for teaching the students that if they *all* said "No" to homework, there was no way that the school could punish them all (these were private schools, and even back then, I knew they couldn't afford the loss of revenue), and so thus, at least for awhile until the school could find a way to deal with the problem, that they would have no homework.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a troublemaker. I'm finished with college as of a year ago, but while I was there, I heard things along the lines of "Oh will you just go away!" from administrators on more than one occasion. I think they wished I didn't exist.

I would be interested in the slash only comm when you get it going :)

*sighs* It has been along time since I have been to Boston and the surrounding areas to haunt the historical sites. I was born on the Cape, and still have family down that way. Would spend summers in North Attleboro with my aunt who would take me to all the historical places. Found a picture the other day she took of me with the statue of Crispus Attucks when I was around 10 or so. Gods that was ages ago LOL.
