There's yet another book coming out pimping the Mayan calendar with the supposed "end date" of 2012.
Terence McKenna once used the year to signify a marked change of consciousness predicted with his Novelty theory (which some have called genius and others have called an externalized metaphor of his own insanity ... I called it Terence just "supposin'") -- the n-wave increased to maximum in 2012. It was NOT the end of the world ... it was merely the end of the steady state version of the world (he foresaw mass implementation of nanotech and that kind of thing). And even that is a pale explanation for the concept. Now all these writers have pimped his ideas, translated it as the "end of the world" and started prattling about it on talk shows. Others wrote about it before Terence, of course, but he was the popularist to translate the concept.
I swear, no culture has had their culture stolen from and then radically misunderstood like the Mayans. Yes, their calendar seems to (according to our capacity to read it) end at 2012. But that supposes we know how to read it (setting aside the arbitrary calendar reference). Personally, I think they just ran out of "paper". ;)
A couple of cool Jimmy vids. Laura
mozartfan1313 reminded me of ... well, let's just say it underscores that even genius has to start *somewhere*. lol It's a very old Pepsi commercial. Keep your eye on the little blond guy by the piano. The second is by Salome, whose Dean collection is even bigger than mine, has put together a gorgeous Cal/Abra (East of Eden) music video. I just love this. It's so different than the usual fan vid these days (not that I don't love many of those, too).

My House/Wilson slash novel that still doesn't have a name yet is going along very well. I'm having wonderful fun with it. I'm at that point where I can see the end in sight and I don't want the trip to end. I know the writers on my flist will know that experience. It's not too common and lots of fun when it happens.
